I love puff pastry homemade za’atar croissants without the extra time and fuss. These mini croissants are sinfully easy to make and are absolutely delicious. They are perfect for mornings, parties, or your next coffee break. Make a batch of them with just 3 ingredients for a wonderful Middle Eastern style breakfast.
Traditional croissant dough is a time-consuming process. I loved the experience of making them with our family friend and I know you all loved watching us make them on Instagram. If you missed it, watch it here. It was so much fun!!! Making croissants from scratch, however, doesn’t fit the ‘achievable easy recipes’ I’m all about.
- 2 puff pastry sheets (store-bought)
- 6 tablespoons of za’atar herb
- 5-6 tablespoons of olive oil
*The puff pastry sheet needs to be thawed before using.
*Za’atar herb can be found in specialty Middle Eastern stores
*Ready puff pastry sheets may vary in size depending on the brand or place you live in.
Pre-heat oven to 200°. Line a baking pan with baking paper.
In a small bowl mix the oil and za’atar herb and stir. You don’t want a runny za’atar mix so add olive oil slowly or as required. Set aside
Thaw out the puff pastry sheets. Cut each puff pastry sheet into 5 triangles with a bottom width of about 5 cm.
Then cut a 1-2 cm slit in the middle of the flat edge. The slit will help widen the dough as you roll and create a traditional shape.
Spread za’atar all over each triangle. This is best done using your hands.
Start rolling outwards from the flat edge (where the slit is) towards the point, making sure the tip is underneath.
Gently bring both points inwards slightly forming a crescent shape.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until croissants are cooked through.
Makes approximately 10-12 mini croissants
