Notes from Rouba

  • Flatten the figs before slitting them open to make them easier to fill with the mixed dried peel.
  • Use dark or milk chocolate depending on your preference or availability.
  • You can experiment with different fillings, such as chopped nuts or a fruity filling of your choice.

Method

Step 1.

Remove the hard stems from each dried fig and use a knife to make a small slit on the side of the fig.  Fill each fig with a small spoonful of mixed dried peel.

Step 2.

Place the chopped dark chocolate in a microwave-safe or heatproof bowl. Melt it in the microwave slowly in intervals, stirring between each, until smooth. Alternatively, melt the chocolate over simmering water, stirring occasionally.

Spear each fig with a toothpick and dip it into the melted chocolate, turning to coat completely.

Place the chocolate-coated figs on a sheet of baking paper and let them set for about 30 minutes or until the chocolate hardens.

Once set, gently remove the toothpicks from the figs and serve.
