If you’ve enjoyed our Kafta Burger recipe or the popular Schnitzel Burgers, you’ll absolutely love the depth of flavour in these beef patties.

The secret to an exceptional burger lies in the quality of the meat. That’s why I encourage exploring options beyond the pre-packaged mince. Did you know some family-run butchers sell Scotch fillet at an attractive price of just $24.99 a kilo? Mincing this cut elevates your burger to new heights of flavour.

Notes from Rouba

  • Always have your condiments ready before you start cooking the meat. This ensures that your burgers can be assembled quickly once the patties are done.
  • Slightly toasting your buns can add a lovely crunch and can help prevent them from getting soggy from the condiments or meat juices.
  • Look for small family-run butchers; they often offer lower prices. Consider opting for high-quality cuts like Scotch fillet, minced. It’s worth shopping around. The cost might be slightly higher than mince (for instance, $24.99 a kg), but the quality and flavour are unparalleled.
  • Once the patties are cooked, let them rest for a minute or so on a wire rack. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the patty, resulting in a more flavourful and juicy burger.

Method

Step 1.

Take your good quality ground beef and portion into round balls, roughly the same size. The size can vary depending on your preference for burger size.

Step 2.

Place a piece of baking paper both under and over each round ball of beef . Then, using the back of a plate, press down on each ball, smashing it into a flat patty. Ensure all patties are uniform in thickness for even cooking.

Season beef patties with salt and pepper

Step 3.

Heat up a frying pan over medium-high heat. Once heated, carefully add the beef patties. Cook each side for about 3-5 minutes or until they reach your desired level of doneness.

When the patties are almost done, place a slice of your preferred cheese on top of each one. Let the cheese melt slightly while the patties are still in the pan.

Once your patties are cooked to your liking and the cheese is melted, remove them from the pan. Let them rest for a few minutes while you prepare the buns.

Step 4.

Split the burger buns and lightly toast them, if desired.

Add the lettuce, sliced pickled cucumbers or gherkins, pickled turnips, followed by your cooked patty with the melted cheese. and a generous dollop of tomato, mayonnaise or chili sauce.

Place the top bun onto your assembled ingredients and gently press down.

  1. Love this site you have set up. I look forward to seeing you and your beautiful family on Instagram. I made this burger as soon as I saw it yesterday. I never thought I would like turnips on my burger because it is so in American LOL but it really kicks butt. Thank you and can’t wait to try more. 🌷❤️Judie
